Today we are going to talk about Industry 4.0, process automation, integration of new technologies in the factory, in summary: about the world of robotics.
There are many companies that have started to implement or already have in their factories a considerable amount of robots, either in industrial robotic arms or in collaborative robots that are able to work next to people. Specifically, we will discuss the work of Boston Dynamics in this field. For those who do not know it, it is an engineering and robotics company that specializes in the building of robots.
Boston Dynamics builds advanced technology robots with remarkable characteristics like agility, dexterity and speed. They use control methods and complex algorithms by computer in order to get extraordinary movements. Organizations worldwide from the US Army, Marine, to Sony Corporarion, consult Boston Dynamics for creating the most advanced robots.
I recommend you check their website or look for more information about that, but for you to see what they are capable, this is an example:

They call this small robot LittleDog. This robot was designed for research on learning locomotion. Scientists use this robot to probe the relationships among motor, dynamic control, perception of the environment and rough-terrain locomotion. LittleDog was used at MIT (Stanford) by important companies.
LittleDog has four legs, each powered by 3 electric motors. This robot is strong enough for climbing. It has an onboard computer that controls the actuators and the communications. Moreover, it has lithium polymer batteries that allow for 30 minutes of continuous operation without recharging. The wireless communications and data logging support remote operation and data analysis.

If now we are already seeing robots like this, how far the advances in robotics will get and what will be next? Robots that accompany people to make the purchase, that tidy our wardrobes, or they dress us up? We will see where enterprises as specialized as it is Boston Dynamics lead us.
Now you can watch three videos, first is of LittleDog developed already in 2009, then you can check about Sand Flea robot that only weights 5 kg and it is able to jump more than 9 m, and finally about SpotMini, their last robot, which is even able to help you filling your dishwasher!:
