Mud and grass cleanup test design

The need to differentiate themselves from their competitors makes companies want to improve their products. In this case, the polymer was blended with an easy-to-clean (E2C) additive.

Objective. Selection of additives and test design.

Selection of easy to clean additives to incorporate this property to the final product. To design a test that simulates the effect of mud and turf staining to determine the ease of cleaning using selected easy to clean additives. In addition, it is intended to simulate the movement on mud and grass, so that it is as realistic as possible.

Solution. We designed a trial to test the selected coatings.

First, a search for suppliers of easy to clean additives was carried out. Five different additives were selected and tested with different percentages of additivation. Laboratory tests were carried out with mud and grass stains to test the easy-to-clean property of the additives. During these tests, it was observed that one of the additives performed better than the others and a 27% improvement was obtained.

 

In the second part of the project, a final prototype was made with the selected additive. For this second part, an ad-hoc test was designed according to the client’s specifications to simulate the boot tread on the previously selected stains. A mud stain test was designed using a collaborative robot to ensure that the footprints were always the same.
