When we look for improving visibility on transparent surfaces that suffer from condensation, it is usual to work with hydrophobic or superhydrophobic coatings than repell the water drops. The El A*STAR’s Institute of Materials Research and Engineering (IMRE) has developed a coating that just work the opposite: attracts the drops to form a homogeneous water film that allows visibility and avoids condensation. This coating can be applied onto plastic or over glass and do not require re-application with time.
From IMRE explains how the coating, called CleanClear, works: it is a ceramic coating that cures at less than 100ºC temperature and do not require post-activation which easier its industrialization. These kind of coatings can be used on building, automobiles, trains, planes windows as well as in automobiles and motorbikes mirrors placed out in the open in which visibility is essential.
